• Do you have employee housing?

We do! We have 3 independent campuses, one located in McKinley Park Village, and 2 in Healy about 30 minutes away from McKinley Park Village.

  • Do I have to live in employee housing?

No you don’t! You are welcome to find housing on your own if you’d like. To live in employee housing you must be a full time employee I.E. work at a minimum of 30 hours a week.

  • Can I bring my pet with me?

We unfortunately don’t allow pets in employee housing.

  • My partner is also working in Denali, but not with your company. Can they live with me in employee housing?

Unfortunately they may not. The only people who are allowed to live in our employee housing, are staff members of Denali Park Adventures.

  • What is the length of the season?

Generally speaking, the summer work season in Denali runs from May through September. Each year varies, based on the scheduling involved with the hotels, National Park, and Cruise Lines. The specifics of your work dates will be outlined on your employment contract.

  • I'm not available from May to September, can I still apply?

You may still apply. There are times where we hire for shortened contracts. We do prioritize applicants who are available for a full season.

  • I've never done adventure work before, should I even apply?

Yes! We will teach you the skills you need on site. The most important thing that we can’t teach is a customer service minded work ethic, and positive attitude.

  • What's the best way to get to Denali?

This depends on how you like to travel. the most affordable way to get here is likely to fly to either Anchorage or Fairbanks and then take the train to Denali. Driving is not at all uncommon, but the roadtrip can be quite a journey and will definitly requirie some planning. Having a car in Denali does afford you a level of autonomy as public transportation infastructure exists but is rudimentary by comparison to more populated areas.

  • Do I need a car?

Having a car in Denali can be an invaluable resource. We provide all the transportation you need to get to and from work to housing, but the company can’t reliably provide transportation for social affairs. You are welcome to hop in any of the company shuttles provided that there is space, but we have very busy summers and our shuttle is often full. If you’re hoping to explore other parts of Alaska regularly on your days off, you’ll want to have a personal vehicle. DPA will shuttle staff to the grocery store upon request.

  • Can I bring a camper with me?

We have limited availability for campers and RV’s. If you are wanting to bring an RV or camper, please mention it in your interview. Note: Our location for RVs and campers are separate from operational campuses. You will need to be able to get yourself to work if living off campus.

  • Do you require any special certifications?

We require our guides and drivers across all 3 companies to be first aid, and CPR certified (before you arrive in Denali for work). Some of our driver positions require CDLs, if you are interested in one of these positions but do not have a CDL discuss options with your interviewer.

  • Do you offer an end of season bonus?

We do! All positions in the company qualify for an end of season bonus, as long as the staff member completes their employment contract dates.

  • Are your tours in the National Park?

No they are not. Our tours operate close to the boarders of the park. Most adventure tourism in Denali operates outside of the park.

  • What will I need to bring if I'm hired?

We give every hired staff member a list of things they will need when they are hired. In Denali though, the most important items to have no matter what the job, is high quality rain gear, waterproof boots, and layers that will allow you to stay comfortable with temperatures ranging from winter conditions to summer heat.

  • Is there time in the summer for me to take a vacation?

We have a very short, and very busy summer season, which does not allow a lot of extended time off. If you have a prior commitment that you will need to leave for, let your interviewer know as we may be able to accommodate for you.

  • How Remote is Denali Really?

Very remote. So remote in fact, that we just recently got our first real grocery store in the town of Healy in 2019. Before that, we used to do bi-weekly grocery runs to Fairbanks, which is the next closest grocery store nearly 2 hours away!

Denali is not the kind of place for people who are completely reliant on all major modern amenities. You will not find movie theaters, or pharmacies, or fast food nearby, and for those who do wish to seek out these types of things find out that it takes some effort and planning to make it happen.

It is fine to come to Alaska without a car, but realize that this will effect your access to certain things. We don’t have Uber, the availability of taxi and shuttle services vary summer to summer, and occasionally even day to day. No vehicle? Plan to walk, maybe buy a bike for the summer, or even consider purchasing an ATV which is common place for locals to get around town.

Most importantly though, take a little time to research Healy, Denali, McKinley Park Village, and understand that Alaska is a very large place with lots of space between infrastructure. It’s one of the things that makes it so special, but it’s also a challenge for those who aren’t prepared, and willing to think creatively and put in a little bit of self motivation to get around.
